Makar Sankranti Celebration
Makar Sankranti Festival was celebrated virtually on 14th January 2022. Teachers explained to the students that Makar Sankranti is mainly a harvest festival. Students were also told about the various ways in which this festival is celebrated throughout our country – Lohri in North India, Pongal in South, Uttarayan in Gujarat, and Makar Sankranti in Maharashtra. The direction of wind, change of season, health advantages of vitamin D and consuming calcium rich sesame seeds and jaggery laddoos were all explained to the students as scientific reasons behind the old traditions related to the festival. Teachers also explained that beginning from Sankranti, the day will be long and nights will be short. Activities like kite making and fireless cooking (til gud ladoo) were done which added fun to the celebration. These activities helped students to strengthen the muscles of the fingers and better hand-eye coordination. Students enjoyed the festival celebration.
