Handwriting Assessment
Handwriting is an extermely complicated skill. We have to have a mental picture or memory of what each letter looks like and then develop a motor plan to create that letter as it looks in our memories. The development of higher level handwriting skills (letter formation, sizing, spacing, alignment and more) all begins with being able to copy simple shapes. Children who are able to copy basic pre writing shapes are able to cope significantly with more letters. A neat and beautiful writing always seeks the attention of others.
In the beginning of the academic year, many LKG children struggle to grip their pencils properly while UKG children are well versed with only alphabets and numbers. Over the period of next few months, they are comfortably able to write alphabets / sentences. This competition is a simple techniques to ascertain their progress.
An event to encourage children to write in a beautiful handwriting was organised. LKG students wrote English alphabets Aa to Zz (both Capital and small letters together). UKG students, under the guidance of their teachers, wrote a few sentences about themselves. As always, the children responded with overwhelming enthusiasm but, the quality of handwriting even overshadowed their enthusiasm!
