A recreational walk in the refreshing rain!!

This is “learning outside classroom” activity, where children accompany their teacher for a walk around the school premises to experience sound and smell of rain. Planning for this activity started a couple of days earlier to the day of the event. Parents were instructed to send children to school with rain coat or umbrella.
On 29th July 2019 it was raining in Mumbai. Children of LKG and UKG were taken out while singing songs related to rain. Children are curious by nature, this activity gives them an opportunity to observe their surroundings in the monsoon season. Children were excited to see the puddles and rainy season creatures. Children observed the plants and trees getting wet in the rain.

This activity taught children about the function of sense organs in the rain. Children observed black and grey clouds, smell of mud, rain and leaves, feel of rain drops. Children observed that wind also plays a vital role during the rain.

The activity concluded by teacher explaining the importance of rain and encouraged children to collect interesting things in the neighbourhood for e.g., twigs, shells, leaves and rocks etc. They were thrilled to spot earthworms and frogs.
