KARGIL VIJAY DIWAS!

As patriotic Indians, we are always proud of our brave soldiers and are grateful for their selfless duty. The Kargil Vijay Diwas is one of those days where these emotions of pride and gratitude are felt stronger than ever. It is celebrated to commemorate our victory over intruders from Pakistan in the year 1999.
NKG Mankhurd also celebrated Vijay Diwas on 26th July 2019 with great pride. This was a great opportunity to introduce the efforts of our armed forces to the children. With the Independence Day just around the corner, teachers took special efforts to make this a momentous day which carried the important message of freedom and the sacrifices made to achieve it and uphold it.
After the regular assembly routine, the school reverberated with the voices of our students passionately singing patriotic songs and rhymes. This was followed by narration of the story of that company of Rajputana Rifles which was tasked with recapturing Point 4590 on Tololing Hill in the Dras sector and of the brave heart, Naik Digendra Kumar, MVC, who single handedly dispatched 48 enemy soldiers. A picture of Naik Digendra Kumar and his medal was displayed. Students learned about the importance of having strong armed forces and gained even more respect for our brave men and women. Voice modulation and background effects complemented the narration and then the declaration of victory by hoisting the tri colour made children cry out loud ‘Jai Hind’ and ‘Bharat Mata ki Jai.’
Later the LKG and UKG children were taken to the museum at INS Tanaji. Children were amused by the displays in the museum and learnt the story of Petty Officer Telegraphist Madan Singh from the Royal Indian Navy who steer headed the Royal Indian Navy revolt. The display of photographs of various war ships, shields, and memento made everyone proud to be part of a Naval School.
It was a great learning experience for the students, and in the process, a proud and patriotic future generation was nurtured… yet again.
