Colouring is Fun. Naval KG school, Mankhurd organised a colouring activity session for all classes i.e. Nursery, LKG and UKG.

Teachers kept the level wise, age-appropriate colouring worksheet ready beforehand.

In the begining, teachers explained the worksheet to their individual class and distributed the crayon pouches to the students. Then they encouraged children to colour the sheets as they liked.

How does this activity help children?

·         The basic coordination skills like the proper way of holding the crayons and recognising what colour to use, can help children to develop eye-hand coordination.

·         Colouring helps kids to focus. Filling in the lines of an age appropriate colouring sheet helps kids focus on the task at hand.

·         Colouring improves colour and texture awareness.

·         It stimulates creativity.

·         Improves fine motor coordination.

Colouring activity can help children to learn the skill of patience. It allows children to be relaxed and comfortable while creating a piece of art.

Children are taught to colour within the boundaries of the picture. As children grow older the things they learnt would be a great help while learning to write.

This colouring activity thus helps children to recognise lines, boundaries, perspective, colour, hue, shape and form.

Conclusion

Completing the colouring worksheet gave children a sense of accomplishment which builds their self esteem and confidence.
