First Aid Training (28th and 29th April 2018):- NWWA as an organisation has been working extensively towards empowering women with new skill sets. These programmes not only provide them training to become young entrepreneurs, professionals but also give them opportunity for personal growth.

NWWA organised a two day workshop on First Aid through St. John Ambulance, Red Cross Society. Dr. Apsi Mehta was the master trainer. NWWA was kind to extend this training to NKG and 8 personnel from NKG attended the training.

Training began with a session on primary survey of the casualty to establish priorities. Detailed session on Cardiopulmonary resuscitation (CPR) covered who should can be and should be given CPR. Variation in the force applied and number of repetitions were also taught for grownups, pregnant women, children and infant. This was followed by practical session, during which each lady performed the CPR on mannequin of a grownup and dummy infant. Everyone also learned how to use the automated external defibrillator (AED).

Tying bandage is an art! Post lunch Dr. Mehta taught ladies how to use triangular cloth to tie various bone injuries. Dr. Mehta also taught ladies how to self bandage without doing much damage to the injury. While ladies mastered ‘reef knot’, Dr. Mehta explained the application of different type of slings for various types of injuries. The next session covered comparison between heart attack and stroke. Types of stroke, identifying the difference and taking action was covered.

Day 2 started with a quick recap of previous day’s session. Followed by session on wounds, bleeding, minor head injuries and moved to serious injuries. Everyone learned how to stop bleeding, how to shift an injured patient, steps to be followed for patients with neck injury etc. Various animal bites and their effects were discussed precaution and first aid for the same was covered. He then moved on to burn injuries, calculating the percentage of burn suffered by the victim and precaution in handling such patients was taught. He also touched upon acid injuries. Dr. Mehta also answered many questions and later conducted an exam. NKG staff gained a lot from the training and it is an asset to have so many First aiders in the school which handles a big number of little children
