Sport is fundamental to the early development of kids and the skills learned during play and sports contribute to the holistic development of children. Through participation they learn about team work, fair play, respect for others and adherence to rules. These learning aspects highlight the impact of sports on a child’s social and moral development in addition to physical skills and abilities.
On 14th February 2020, Naval KG School, Mankhurd, organized annual sports day for all classes. This year sports day was entirely in house event. The ground was made ready for various races and children were made to practice by respective teachers before the event.
We started our program with torch bearing ceremony. Representatives from Nursery, LKG and UKG were lined up all around the ground. They proudly relayed the torch to our Headmistress Mrs Kanchan Sabnis who declared the sports meet open.
Heats were conducted for selecting best athletes who would be competing for inter class races. This was followed by variants of individual races which tested their grit and determination. UKG actively took part in relay race which exhibited their team spirit and coordination.
Nursery (MB) – Boys – became Bob the builder and quickly ‘Build a pyramid’ before running towards the finish line. Whereas Girls- Showcased their hand eye coordination by String the beads and then running towards the finish line. Nursery (AB) – Boys – Showcased immense strength by performing Frog Jump. They could be seen leaping towards the finish line. And Girls – Showcased their hand eye coordination matching the colour of their baskets with the balls kept at a distance, they also ran towards the finish line while balancing the balls kept in their basket. LKG A ,B – Boys –Had a hard task to face, they had to Cross the bridge to make it to the finish line. Whereas Girls- had a very difficult task laid before them, they were supposed to burst the balloon stuck to the chair without touching it and then run towards the finish line. The task which looks so simple for elders was found to be quite challenging for these young girls. LKG C Boys and Girls – while hopping their way to the finish line they managed to match their flags with balls kept in a basket at a distance. LKGD Boys and Girls- They thought they were in for a yummy treat, but eating a hanging biscuit with a thread and that to without touching tested their skill and patience. UKG A – Boys and Girls had to realign glasses on the way to finish line. UKG B- Boys were made to run in a Zig zag manner to reach the finish line and Girls – tried their hands on balancing the glass of water in a tray. UKG C boys and girls – were given the task to hop, then duck to cross the hurdle and run towards the finish line. UKG D boys and girls – With very high spirit managed to jump all the Hurdles laid on their way. Apart from these different fun races, LKG children competed in flat race against their peer in an intersection competition while UKG sections participated in relay race.
Special contribution were made by Experts from Naval Sports Department for starting and finishing the events including identifying the winners. The proud winners of the fun races were awarded certificates where as inter section winner bagged medals and certificates. Kudos to all our little ones who displayed that competition is not all about winning but also about the spirit of competing with fun.
