The festival of lights, Diwali was celebrated in the assembly with great joy on 25th Oct. As precursor to the celebration children were singing many Diwali related songs in the assembly for more than a week. On 25th the assembly area was nicely decorated with small lights, lanterns, colourful rangoli and diyas. That day the entire school staff and children came dressed for the occasion. Teacher explained the importance of the festival; why it is celebrate and how we celebrate diwali? It was explained that the return of Lord Rama to his kingdom Ayodhya, after spending 14 yrs of exile in the forest, is celebrated as Diwali every year. The significance of the festival was taught to children through role play method. Children of LKG enacted as Lord Rama, Sita and Laxshman while narrating the story. It was shared that Diwali is a five day festival that begins with cleaning and decorating the house. The goddess of wealth-Laxmi is worshipped to bring prosperity and happiness in the house. This kind of celebration develops respect towards our culture from a very young age. Children were also taught about fireworks safety rules with emphasis on clam and environmental friendly way of celebration.
Nursery children made colourful paper lanterns which were given as take away. LKG and UKG children coloured and decorated the earthen diyas beautifully, which were distributed to the children as take away when they went back home. LGK children also learnt the art of making lanterns with paper. They decorated their lanterns with fingertip painting and pasted them in their scrapbook.
