This year the school reopening day coincided with International Yoga Day. The excitement of first day of the school after summer break was amplified by the yoga activity. Yoga is the ancient Indian discipline for the well being of body and soul. The international Yoga day is celebrated world wide by performing yoga asanas.

Yoga enhances flexibility, strength, coordination, and body awareness. Yoga with children offers many possibilities to exchange wisdom, share good times, and lay the foundation for a lifelong practice that will continue to deepen.

With slight overcast, the assembly area looked calm and comfortable for the children to get into exercise mood. The yoga activity was planned in two separate sessions. Children came dressed in PT uniform. During assembly session children were introduced to the concept of Yoga. We began with, simple 5 minute warm-up exercises, which children are familiar with, this was followed by 15 minutes of sitting and standing asanas and the session culminated with 5 minutes of breathing techniques. In session two every class separately performed yoga in their respective classes. They performed asanas which could not be done in assembly. This was also done to reinforce the importance of yoga in children. Children were taught basic asanas such as Tadasan, Vrikshasan, Trikonasan. Children thoroughly enjoyed performing various asanas.
